Karra Society for Rural Action was established in the year 1985 with noble aim of uplifting socially downtrodden communities belonging to both rural and urban areas including the tribals, particularly in Karra Block of Ranchi District and generally, in whole of the Jharkhand State. KSRA works on the issues of Women Empowerment, Livelihood promotion, NRM, Social Mobilization, Watershed Management, Mother and Child Health, Skill Development among youths.
KSRA aims to build self sustaining and self reliant communities with major thrust on tribal and vulnerable communities through programs focused on health, livelihood, agriculture, forest protection and skill development in region of Jharkhand
KSRA vision is to build itself into an institution that is capable of building strong communities through various training and capacity building programs. Thus, enabling them to take their own development initiatives towards self reliant and self sustainable society.

FOUNDER OF THE ORGANIZATION

Late Prof. SYED AFZAL AHMAD was the founder of the Karra Society for Rural Action Ranchi. He started his professional carrier as Project Officer in Xavier Institute, later as Faculty Member Adult Education Department of Xavier Institute of Social Service, Ranchi, 1978-86. His aim was to enhance the most deprived community members to the level of economic and social self-reliance through various integrated development initiatives. During his tenure he got attached to the local community and felt the need to cater to them and thus a thought was developed. As a result, Karra Society for Rural Action was established with the noble aim of uplifting socially and economically downtrodden communities belonging to both rural and urban areas including the Schedule Tribe, Schedule Cast adolescent girls, women, and children.
